Abstract

In this article the Sikh period has been discussed in Folk literature. In the beginning it has been described that Sikhism formally begins with Baba Guru Nanak. He was born at Talwandi, a village on the Ravi in Sharqpur. After that it has been discussed when Maharaja Ranjeet Singh occupied Lahore and expanded the boundaries of Punjabi Government during his reign. He was an open minded Raja. The people had a complete right to express their ideas. He made his enemies kill one by one. At least he passed away in 1839 after ruling 40 years. After his death, his successor became incompetent and weak. Mutual disagreement and incompetence of the army led to the downfall of Najit Singh's government. And in 1849, the British occupied the Punjab.
