In the last decades of the nineteenth century, creative autobiography started formally in Urdu. "Beti Kahani" has the honor of being the first autobiography in Urdu women's literature. It was written by Shahr Bano in May 1885 under the title "Biti Kahani". It has all the qualities of language and expression. This is a great addition to Urdu literature. Despite the strict norms and restrictions of the society, Shahr Bano has beautifully narrated the story of life and set an example of courage and charm. This autobiography of Shahr Bano is not only an interesting biography of her but also a primary source of history of Patodi state. In the article under review, this autobiography has been critically evaluated. |
