Abstract

This article explores the efforts of Shafqat Tanveer Mirza for the development of the Punjabi language and literature in Pakistan. In the case of the Punjabi language, Shafqat Tanveer Mirza is a versatile figure and he has performed valuable prominent services in the field of Punjabi language. After the emergence of Pakistan and especially in the decade of 1960s, Shafqat Tanveer Mirza had organized Punjabi literary organizations and movements in Pakistani Punjab on the most urgent levels.The writers and Intellectuals of these organizations have contested for the appropriate rights of Punjabi language through their practice and pen and as a result of this struggle, the government had allowed the starting of MA in the Punjabi language in Punjab University and Shah Hussain college in the 1970s. The organizations and movements established by Shafqat Tanveer Mirza are still pursuing the struggle of the Punjabi language for its proper rights and status.
