Abstract

Literally, Naat recitation falls into the category of praise. After Allah Almighty the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is worthy of all praise. It is such an astonishment that the pen, inspite of all its flight, expression, all its ambiguities and all its exaltations, seems incapable of fulfilling its right. How can there be arrogance and pride where the right of praise is no paid? Praise and lyricism are due to a mixture of exaggeration, while in the court of the Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him) there is no room for flattering style, exaggerated manner of praise and educational self expression. The limits of praise are defined in Islamic teachings. In Naat, truthfulness is not only necessary but also obligatory, because it is mentioned by Allah Almighty. Care must be taken for the Naat reciter that it is not only a question of keeping in view the requirements of genre of speech, but also a question of the integrity of faith. Scholars set the boundaries of each genre of speech, but the rules of Naat are set with reference of the Creator, so the praiser should be careful and thankful. Despite precautions, there are aspects left in Urdu Naat in which there is still room for improvement. With this in mind, this article identifies the aspects that need to be reformed and also points out some ways to improve them. Hopefully this can lead to improvement.
