Abstract

Among the literary circles, Jillani Kamran is best known for his robust attachment with Modern Urdu Poetry. His unusual characteristic of composing the longest poems distinguishes him from other modern Urdu poets. 'Yemen ka Shair Janoobi France Main', 'Abi Namer', 'Naqsh-e-Kaf-e-Pa' and 'Baghe-e-Dunya' are representative poems of Jillani Kamran. Naqsh-e-Kaf-e-Pa, in particular, is categorised to be a deviant poem due to its message and content. It is a poetic drama consisting of symbolic characters who represent the mental struggle of wise men living in Pakistan. The technique of personification is aptly used in it. This poem describes how our society is replete with feelings of alienation, estrangement, suffering, pain, futility, meaninglessness, emotionlessness, and helplessness conveying the milieu of modernism. Along with the subtle notes of modernity and existentialism, it depicts how the western and Islamic cultures have been intermingled. We can also trace that modern English literature finds its place in it as well. |
