Abstract

Prosody or "Orooz" is the knowledge for poetry in Urdu, Persian and Arabic. It is like grammar and essential for the subject of poetry. Some people have not read this grammar but still speak the correct and fluently the poetic verses, so they do not make any grammar mistakes. Compared to them, there are some people who have read grammar but cannot recite poetry fluently. There is no such thing as knowledge which every non-poet can become a poet or without which no one can write poetry. Apart of this all, poetry and Orooz both are inseparable. This article is a descriptive study of prosody.
