Mustansar Hussain Tarar holds a prominent place in Urdu literature. His novel with the name of “Khas-o-Khashak Zamanay” was published in 2010. This novel has a vast canvas and a very composed plot . Excellent characterization, beautiful sceneries, fiction, magical realism and flashback technique has made this novel unique in its genre. In this novel, a history of hundred years and almost one hundred and fifty characters have been extraordinarily presented in very simple and elegant language. Plot is multi-directional but composed which opens up layer by layer and the reader enters from one era of history to the next. The novel opens new horizons of cognition for the reader – Accidents transform into thoughtful events with the flow of time and present keeps on changing into past. In this flow of time customs, values and traditions devalue like straws and keep moving on the high tide of time. This aspect that how the racial differences fade out, the differentiation between aristocrats and vile of the society diminishes and urge of acquisition of wealth makes people both of high and low statures stand on the same ground, has been reviewed in this article. |
